Who We Are
We are a collective of Indigenous OTs from across Turtle Island who have gathered together to shed a critical light onto the profession of occupational therapy. We are working together to create a more inclusive decolonial space that is built from Indigenous epistemologies and pedagogies. This foundation embraces the concept of LandBack which bleeds into all aspects of the profession: clinical practice, research, and education. We are Indigenous OT students, clinicians, researchers, and academics.
This collective will advance the profession by dismantling western superiority and white supremacy embedded into the OT profession through advocacy, mentorship, resource creation, and creating systems and structures for ourselves as Indigenous OTs using our collective knowledge. We will collaborate with the International Indigenous OT community to assert our sovereignty and self-determination and resist colonial dominance through relationality and solidarity. We will research, educate, and create clinical practice settings for us, by us.
We intend to build a governance structure, a membership group for Indigenous OT students and clinicians, a membership group for non-Indigenous OTs (to build settler capacity), and an organizational membership.
